When I requested for sharings from readers of reminiscences of their fathers, I received the poem below from EVD, from an author unknown. It is one lovely poem and I felt I just have to translate it into Pilipino. I hope you will also find the translation as moving as the original.
WHAT MAKES A DAD
God took the strength of
a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea;
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight.
Then God combined
these qualities,
When there was nothing
more to add,
He knew His masterpiece
was complete,
And so He called it "DAD!"

Kinuha ng Diyos tatag ng kabundukan,
at sa punongkahoy ay kamaharlikaan,
ang masiglang init ng naghaharing araw.
Sa dagat na tahimik ay kapayapaan,
Buhay na mapagbigay ng saganang kalikasan;
mapagpalang bisig ng gabing mapanglaw,
At sa mga pantas ay katalinuhan,
Sa agila sa himpapawid ay lakas at tibay.
