SHARING MEMORIES - BAGONG MAGDALENA

Thank you very much for your stories. It makes me relive the days of my youth spent with my beloved Lola and reading her Liwayway...Till I started reading your stories I really didn't know that Liwayway is still around.

"Bagong Magdalena" truly touched a chord as we have the "Magdalena" for the procession of Barasoain Church. After the Holy week she is kept inside a glass cabinet in my room hence I always called her my roommate. During the Holy week procession, all of the female cousins and relatives are with Maria Magdalena while the male relatives are with "Panalangin" (Agony in the Garden). as Tatay's family has "Panalangin" also. I remember how we have to say the rosary throughout the Holy Thursday & Good Friday processions and be there at the "Salubong" at the crack of dawn Sunday morning as Magdalena is there too.

Ba Senyong was in charge of her and Mahal na Birhen and he always wanted (in fact I sometimes think demanded) her dressed up well and the flowers in the karosa always looking new. We had to go into a generator after so many "pundis ng ilaw" which upset us but I think Ba Senyong. more. I still remember the sting of the "patak nang kandila pag nalingat ka" inspite of the cardboard at it's base and the route of the procession.

I went back after many years of absence and noticed the change- it didn't pass through karsadang munti (which to my surprise is now R. Valenzuela after Lolo Pinong) but went to Liyang. Guess these are all progress but I do miss the good old days. Thank you for keeping me reconnected and updated. It truly is a pleasure to read your kwentos.

I invite all of you to make this an interactive blogsite and bring to the present generation of our children and grandchildren, NA KUNG PAANO SILA NGAYON, GANOON TAYO NOON...

Eve
